They say one out of every four teenage girl (14-19) have a sexually transmitted disease.

About half of the girls acknowledged ever having sex; among them, the rate was 40 percent. While some teens define sex as only intercourse, other types of intimate behavior including oral sex can spread some infections.

Think About Rule Number 16

A few years ago while sitting in a bar, I wrote a spiel in my journal and there were people who said it was good for the kids so I'll give it another try on a word processor and recreate in this book.

It's a bit about a book I bought while I was alone most of the time and surfing in Westport, Washington. I bought it the Red Apple grocery store in Westport and though I never really bought books to read, the title caught my eye. Being single again after about six years; the title seemed to grab me. To me it didn't matter if it was fiction or non-fiction, but I just figured it was a study type of book like one with surveys and things. I figured that since it was the end of the eighties the book might summarize what the sexual revolution was up to despite the growing concern about the sexual transmitted diseases.

The title of it was Burning Desires, Sex of the eighties, and it wasn't anything like I thought it was at first glance. It was written by two doctors who were applaud at the fact that in the back of adult magazines there was still advertising for swingers clubs despite the growing epidemic of aids.

The doctors packed their bags and traveled around the country to the known hot spots for sexual activity. They checked out swingers clubs and offered free seminars.
         They would set up a separate room away from the swingers gatherings and offered a sexual awareness seminar complete with film strips and everything. In addition to the seminars they’d offer free AIDS screening texts. Whether the swingers saw the spiel or not was up to the individual swingers. The interesting part came when people agreed to a confidential aids screening text. The doctors discovered that just about every group they checked out – someone in the group had aids. When the doctors for broke the news to the swingers clubs, there were usually a few members who would get mad at the doctors because the groups would usually break up, and they thought the doctors were ruining their fun. Others in the groups thanked the doctors because they were hoping the doctors had saved their lives.

At the time Aspen Colorado was know as a hot spot and also Key West Florida. Its my impression the folk's in Aspen cooled their britches pretty fast. But Key West was clearly out of hand. One guy alone, an owner of a restaurant was known to have spread aids to at least 30 women. The guy had a way with women because he knew the things to say to them and they’d fall for his charm. Even when he was ill at times, he still denied having any diseases. His wife died of aids before he did.

The gay clubs Key West changed after the arrival of the doctors. It ended up to where the guys in the clubs were afraid to jerk themselves off around each other. I don't know how things are down there now, but one of the things a doctor mentioned was that much of the population that was once in Key West, is gone now.

The book pretty much scared my pants on me. I would encourage any kid to get their handson it. If I had a teenager, you could bet they would have one.

I wish I still had it so I could list the author's name but I gave it to a son of a friend before he when off to collage. I was hoping he and his younger sister would read it. Well I guess I gave it to the wrong person, because the next time I saw him he was at his dad's restaurant flipping burgers. He had a new child of his own and a girl friend to fight with. He told me he wished he was doing something like I was. I told him to consider what he had. I told him that he had a family of his own and he should look at the fact that many would love to be in his shoes. I tried to get him to face up to where he ended up.

I told him that a person can't expect what happened to me, nor could they plan it. It all just fell into my hands. I told him that he couldn't count on doing the same thing. I said, "You should just figure out a direction and focus on it."   I didn't want to tell him that I probably would have never done what I've done with a wife and kid. I'd speculate they'd been gone along time ago, or say I would may have taken a different road. If I would have taken a different road, my parents would probably still like me.

Oh yah, as I wrote in my Journal a long time ago about the statistic -- if we all started out having monogamous sexual relationships at age 17 and changed partners once per year; by the time we would reach the age of 25, we would have as good as slept with over 700 people. (I think it was 735) Scary hah? Odds are we would all have some social disease now wouldn't we? Like I've said before, "You can't miss what you have never had." Get this: apparently a certain percentage of women don't enjoy sex much anyway. It has been said that guys love to have sex and girls have sex to be loved. So girls, don't do it just to make your boyfriend happy.
